I belong to a few groups that meet regularly where we are all, unashamedly, geeks. At a recent meeting, one young woman randomly said, "You remind me of the babe."
Immediately, as though the entire thing were planned, another woman said, "What babe?" and another piped up, "The babe with the power."
If you know what I'm talking about -- or if you can recite the entire exchange without having to look it up -- you might be a geek.
It turned out one of the young woman's friends had dared her to randomly say, "You remind me of the babe," at any gathering of geeks, with the theory that you couldn't say that line without the rest of the group finishing out the diaglogue for you. It was true for our group, and just to see what would happen, I put that line in my status on Facebook. Within a few hours, several friends had posted the rest of the dialogue.
This just goes to show that there is a geek language that emerges when a bunch of us get together. At these group meetings I attend -- which are completely unrelated, by the way, except for the fact that I'm in them -- the conversation almost always includes roughly the same subjects: favorite sci-fi and fantasy movies, Battlestar Gallactica, Star Trek, Star Wars, and favorite sci-fi and fantasy books and series.
What about you? Do you speak geek? Are there certain subjects that you find to be universal among all of your geek friends?
